Summary: Reflecting back on our LEAP 2 project, I feel like my partner and I did a good job learning this new video making platform and composing a project that depicts an important topic we learned in digital media literacy this semester. Animaker was a fun creative platform to create our project to describe the topic of which controls mainstream media. My partner and I did face several complications while using the website. Once we finished we realized that there was a limit to how many free pictures you could use before uploading to YouTube, and had to make many alterations to our aesthetic. Although having a rough start adjusting to the various frameworks, Christy and I made it work through several trial and error runs and by watching videos posted by our peers. The Process: The first step in our process was deciding on what digital media topic we wanted to focus on. We wanted to pick a topic that interested both of us and was something that we felt was important in relation to media. We felt like looking further into who and what makes media “good” would be best for us to take a deeper look into. Next we created a Google doc sheet that we could prepare what we wanted to say and the main points we felt were necessary in examining the quality of media and the process behind creating a good media post. This is important for media creators to understand when reaching out to their desired audience and something we wanted to make clear in our project. We got all of our information from Create To Learn chapter 2 and from digital media literacy week 4. The Create To Learn chapters really helped us develop a good framework to follow when figuring out the different aspects that go into creating a “good” media post and the different things an audience looks for. After we created a Google doc with the main points we waned to portray, we then began to create our video. Learning the platform caused several issues to arise but working in a team made the process speed up and showed to be much more efficient. Playing with each animation took and being able to create a new character through our video left room for a lot of creativity and allowed us to expand on our previous knowledge of the topic. Conclusion: Overall, I found the process to be a good experience. With all of our classes being switched to online, finding time to get ahead of work is difficult. If I did not wait so long to do this project I may have been able to work on a more innovative outcome. Conclusively, I felt this project sparked new creativity and boosted my confidence in knowing about media postings.
