For this LEAP 2 project, my partner (Sydney Pellerin) and I focused our attention on acceptance and power of social media and how it can affect you in the long run. After reading the instructions over a few times, we brainstormed our own ideas and shared them with each other and picked which one we thought fit for the audience, college educated adults with an interest in digital literacy.
After picking our topic, we created a google doc where we wrote an outline of what we wanted to inform about in our video. We decided that we wanted to tell a story for our project, and tie together at the end the important aspects from class and the overall message we wanted to convey. Once we had decided this we wrote the outline and each aspect we wanted to touch on. We used the 7 easy steps to create your own animation from Create to Learn by Renee Hobbs. The first aspect we used was to develop a scope of work. This is where you identify your purpose, audience, point of view. This was partially already decided for us, as we had to focus towards college educated adults. The second aspect is to identify a mentor text. This is where you use resources to get information, we used the Create to Learn book. Third, you need to select an animation production tool. We used Animaker which is an online website where you can create a video using characters, pictures, voice overs, etc. Next you need to create a storyboard. Like I stated before, we did this over a google doc which we each edited and provided information to. The fifth step is to create, find or edit images you need for production. This was done over Animaker as we went through creating the video. The sixth and seventh steps were to show and receive feedback, and then review and edit. I didn't receive this from students or the professor, but with my partner we gave feedback and edited as we went along.
I found throughout the creation process, it was hard to figure out how to use Animaker. With a partner creating it alongside you, we found that you can’t always see what the other is creating. After taking time and figuring out exactly what to do, we finally found a rhythm and worked really well together. We worked on the weekends on this project leading up to the due date because that was the only time we found that we could work solely on the project without any distractions. With everything that happened since spring break, with moving to remote learning for the rest of the semester, we had a hard time finding time to work on the project.
From going from one to two online classes, to all of them being online, with many distractions, we had to find a time that worked for both of us. After reading the instructions for this project, I was worried that we would have a hard time doing it since we weren’t able to meet in person, but having Sydney as a partner was great, we worked well together.
