For this LEAP 2 project, I worked with Isabelle Kiritsy, to create an informative and entertaining video animation about propaganda. We decided this would be good to inform about as that is something that we are exposed to every day, but people often do not give it a second thought. To begin, we used FaceTime to discuss different ideas for our animation video. Once we landed upon propaganda, we decided which aspects of the topic would be included and discussed so that we could fit all of the information into a 3-5 minute video. When deciding which topics to talk about, we also kept in mind that the audience is college-educated adults. After this, we created a shared Powtoon account and a google document. Through the google document, we made an outline of the information we wanted to include in the video animation and created the dialogue that we would use. I also read chapter 13 to ensure we included everything that is important for a video animation, such as an introduction, good transitions, and a conclusion. Once this information was outlined, we began working on the animation via the Powtoon account and adding voiceover to the video. Finally, I created my notion page, an easy place where all of my work for this project can be found, and made it appealing to the viewer.

One of the difficulties that I ran into when creating this video animation was that on Powtoon, each slide can only last 20 seconds, meaning that the audio had to be broken up into 20 second parts. Since I did not realize this was the case until after I had written my dialogue, I had to go back and make edits to what I was going to say during each slide and split some topics into multiple slides. In the middle of creating our video we also ran into the problem of Powtoon only allowing our video to be 3 minutes long. When we found this out we had to condense some of our slides and speak a little bit faster in order to fit all of the information we needed in the video. This was an obstacle, but I was able to work through it and still convey the information that I had originally planned, just in a different way. Another difficulty I faced while working on this project was not being able to meet up with my partner in person due to the Coronavirus and social distancing. Being able to meet in person would have made this process a little bit easier as we would have been able to complete the recording together instead of doing them separate and then stringing them together. I think this would have made the final project sound more professional. In addition, it would have been easier to collaborate and discuss our ideas and plans for the project rather than having to call one another or only see the edits that the other has made on the google document or Powtoon presentation. We used face time to create some of the slides together, but only one person could edit the Powtoon at a time which made things difficult.

I did however enjoy that this was a group project because I was able to use the “power of two” while creating this video animation. It was nice to have someone to discuss my ideas with and receive and give feedback. By discussing the topics and bouncing ideas off of one another I was able to learn from my partner and together we were able to create something I probably would not have come up with on my own.
