In the beginning I tossed around all kinds of ideas and yet couldn't find something I was happy with. Finally I tried to think of something that I could not only use for an assignment but also for work. Over the winter I came across some old newspaper articles that included old library programming. One program that sparked interest was a bus tour the library had co-sponsored with the EP Historical Society. The bus tour took residents around to local historical sites and buildings throughout the city. Since recreating this tour would be impossible with residents on stay-at-home orders due to COVID-19 I decided to bring them to them virtually.

I began creating a “Choose your own adventure” type presentation creating images and gathering information. As my project got going a started putting it together using Storymap by Knight lab. This program had the right concept: it allowed the user to travel to destinations, however it wasn’t giving me the opportunity to create an image with enough needed information. It also didn’t give the user as much freedom I had hoped for in a true “Choose your own Adventure” format. I began looking for other methods.

My next attempt was with Adobe Indesign. Indesign would allow me to create interactive PDF that would allow the user to freely navigate through the tour. This choice would also quickly crumble on me. It has been years since I’ve used indesign and I’d forgotten much of the tricks into creating. Therefore without many refreshers using Indesign would take more time to learn and create then I had to do the project.
