Creative Process
We live in a society where everything you do is posted on social media out of habit and influence by the people we surround ourselves with. When initially being assigned this project, I thought it would be interesting to complete it on someone that recently gained fame and notice on social media. I chose Tik Tok because I wanted to stray away from Youtube and Instagram and take a different route. I recently started exploring Tik Tok, using my creative resources to post videos, all of which have not become overnight sensations. To be honest, I never knew that Tik Tok would become as popularized as it is today, because of the influence social media’s such as Instagram and Facebook have. I wanted to challenge myself to gain knowledge on this app throughout this project as well as figure out how influencers can take their fame and turn it into positivity. For me, creating the YouTube video is something that I’m familiar with and was very entertaining. I used to create YouTube videos when I was younger and it was something that I haven’t done in a while. Using the notion page to create this assignment was also very enjoyable as I like to learn new programs and express my creativity.
The influencer I decided to research is Charli D’Amelio. Charli is a 15 year-old dancing sensation who quickly rose to fame after posting a viral video of her dancing using her own original choreography. Within one year, she has traveled to many different states to meet fans and other influencers to create content for her viewers. You can’t scroll through the explore page on this app without seeing someone refencer her or recreate one of her dances. She has been dancing for 12 years, with jazz and contemporary being her favorite to perform.
Charli D’Amelio’s fanbase is consistent, with many pre-teens following her videos and creating fan accounts in her name to share why they love and appreciate her. Most of her fan base re-creates her dances and original choreography to mimic her incredible talent. Throughout her recent fame, many people have labeled her as an unpositive influence on her fans. Her somewhat “promiscuous,” dancing has pushed quite a few boundaries for a 15 year old girl. With this fame came a multitude of hate comments including death threats towards her from anonymous sources which have taken a toll on her growth experience. Charli expresses herself through her dancing and is aspiring to become a professional dancer, in which many would label her as one already.
In order for me to complete this project, I had to do extensive research throughout many different sources. I watched many different Youtube videos, Tik Toks, and biographies on her to receive maximum knowledge. I don't believe that I encountered any challenges when completing this project as I enjoyed the research and process of it. Overall, I would say that I enjoyed this project. It caused me to learn more about social media influencers and how rising to fame as a young teenager can truly affect someone. Being a full time influencer is what many people aspire to become, as it can appear fun to be yourself in front of the camera and create content that you enjoy. What many people don’t realize is that with fame comes a price and as long as you don’t let fame change who you are, then you'll be able to be content with your life.
