I couldn’t make up my mind on who I wanted as my digital author. I created a list with a ton of famous YouTube stars but felt like I wouldn’t be as interested if I didn’t choose someone I could relate to or wanted to learn more about; therefore, I decided to choose someone who is a bit younger but on the rise. I choose to analyze a 23-year-old girl from Boston, Massachusetts. She is relatively famous and on the rise, with 285,000 subscribers on YouTube. I decided to choose her because, unlike most of my classmates picking already famous people, it’s more interesting to see her process of trying to attain an even more significant following after starting as a nobody. Her videos focus on fashion, lifestyle, health, and travel. Her main goal is to inspire other girls to be comfortable and confident in their own skin. She creates a following by creating videos of what her life consists of and what she does daily. Her more popular videos include her showcasing specific products that she loves and trusts. Giving her feedback to her viewers is what her audience is looking for. Her audience consists of mainly teenagers to young adults looking for someone confident to help them become more confident.
One video that stuck out to me was her video titled “My Official Boston Apartment Tour!” This video had over 300,000 views, and it lasted a little over a half-hour. It is crazy to me that so many people can be interested in a video of someone’s apartment. This video showcased her walking around her new apartment, showing everything in it and explaining where she got it from. She also included links to the items below in the comments.
I wanted my page to look as if it was her page and gave you an insight into her life. I decided to create a page that was very hip and colorful. I used some of her pictures, videos, and added links to her social accounts. At first, I was perplexed on how to use Notion. It is very different than anything I have used for school before. After using Notion for this assignment, I like the platform and wished more professors used it for their classes. I think it is a great workspace and allows individuals to be creative. I also wasn’t sure how to make a Screencast and felt overwhelmed by the idea, but once I took the time to watch some videos on how to make one and tried using the site you recommended, it was quite fun. Overall, I enjoyed this project. I think that it made me step out of my comfort zone and truly learn more about how someone goes about creating an online presence for themselves. I never really went on YouTube before this but have become more interested after researching up and coming YouTuber’s. I feel like you could easily start watching videos and then three hours later wonder where the time went!
